In January of 2012, the Fashion and Beauty world welcomed Kristen Stewart into its fragrance-dabbed arms when she was announced as the face of Balenciaga’s new perfume Florabotanica. Over the course of the following months Kristen joined Balenciaga’s Creative Director, Nicolas Ghesquiere during Fashion Week, at the fabled Met Gala, in New York City to shoot the campaign and even in Paris to introduce Kristen to the fashion world press. Kristen and Nicolas had the opportunity to talk about the fragrance, the fashion house, their creative spirit and working and creating art with each other.

“Kristen embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence.” ~ Nicolas Ghesquière to WWD

“I want to be around Nicolas when he gets excited about fabric. I want to see the look on his face when he sees me put on a dress.” ~ Kristen to WWD

“Sometimes you meet people and instantly recognize something in them, and you explore that friendship because you want to figure out what you recognized about them at that first second.” ~ Kristen on Nicolas in Fashion Canada

“The brand is just cool. That’s the way it is. I feel drawn to it. It provokes on a number of levels. It isn’t afraid or contrived. It hits a very cool balance, always. Always pretty undeniable.” ~Kristen to WWD

“[Nicolas] creates a show and it’s like watching a movie. He is very conceptual.” ~Kristen on Nicolas during the Live Chat

“Fragrance is feral. It’s sexual, it’s about your skin.” ~ Kristen in Marie Claire UK

“[Florabotanica is] very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it — considering that I’ve never worn a scent — it kind of puts you on this level of, like, ‘Whoa, check me out.’ ” ~ Kristen to WWD

“[Florabotanica] puts you on another level. There’s sophistication to it. I feel a little bit…hello! And that feels really good. It’s sex. It’s vibrant. And thank God I liked [Florabotanica] when I smelled it; I’m not a good liar.” ~ Kristen to

Kristen recently participated in a live chat for the fragrance:

During the chat Kristen revealed her thoughts on Florabotanica:
It is very “fresh and French.”
“It can change who you are, how you feel.”
“I think it’s alluring; I think it’s bold, present…. natural which is very important.”
If Florabotanica were a film, Kristen thinks it would be “super Alice In Wonderland-y”

In 2013 Nicolas Ghesquiere made the decision to exit Balenciaga and enter the world of Louis Vuitton as their new Artistic Director. While the fashion world was saddened by his departure, Kristen’s work with Balenciaga rolled on. Releasing their 2nd ‘Botanica’ fragrance, this time taking a lighter,  more sheer approach. ‘Rosabotanica‘ is described as “Floral, a bright and spicy rose”.  In the campaign we see a ‘topless’ Kristen with gorgeous, colorful vines growing all over her body. As if the scent has completely enveloped her. Both the ads and the fragrance are absolutely lovely. Click here to go behind the scenes of the shoot.
